Spring time 2016 has been busy, riding throughout the Hill Country on my Hog has produced some amazing floral opportunities as well as, abandoned buildings that can now be seen through the sparse foliage. Spring in south Texas brought us rain that produced a wide variety of wild flowers, mainly our Blue Bonnets. In addition, we get a plethora of pollen in spring time. We get out of our "winter" mountain cedar pollen months, which bother most everyone, we then get inundated with oak pollen that covers everything with a green/yellow blanket. Despite the pollen, the weather has been awesome and helped produced some amazing photos that I really hope you enjoy viewing and sharing. I know that folks up north are still receiving snow, though I miss it, I cannot complain about our spring temps - no air-conditioner/no heater. These photos and others are available for purchase in various sizes and as a final product to include framing & custom matting. I will be adding additional photos over the next few days and they will eventually be available for purchase on my website. It was a cold winters day here in the South, a balmy 48 degrees while out taking these photos. However, at 60 mph on my motorcycle that's around 35 deg wind chill. Had a great time finding these shots, easier to find with no foliage. Still have a lot of green on the ground, will enjoy it for now, until the summer burns it all. Thank you for viewing my work. Lost Maples State Natural Area is a large, pristine area of beautiful hills and canyons on the upper Sabinal River in the Edwards Plateau Region of Texas. Lost Maples protects a special stand of Uvalde bigtooth maples. Many folks come here to see colorful leaves on these and other trees in autumn. The show varies, depending on weather conditions. Visit any time to see abundant wildflowers, steep canyon walls and the scenic Sabinal River. Spring break is just awesome down here in south Texas, no traffic, no extreme heat (or snow), and open roads riding the hog. Have been putting over 100+ miles a day riding around the back roads from the south to the north west. A little Johnny Cash sounds about right, queue "I've been everywhere." Not a day goes by where that southern hospitality doesn't just warm the soul. As I ride a motorcycle, I often stop along the side of the road to angle up the next photograph and/or chug a couple of gulps of water. Anyway, people of all ages will stop to ask if I am ok, do I need any assistance; then we start talking about the back country roads, their neighborhood and how proud they are of the slow pace, peacefulness, and beauty found out of the city lights. Well, let me tell you, the wild flowers are out early this year and the bluebonnets are a darker blue from years past, very nice. Abandoned buildings still standing (barely) after all these years offer a wonderful contrast to the still bare but budding trees. The renewal of spring gives thanks to those fallen members of nature that have passed on such as trees, plants, and animals; they have provided the nutrients for a new beginning so that others may grow strong, blossom and prosper. Well another Spring Break has come and gone down here in South Texas. This year's bluebonnet crop was not quite as spectacular as years past, though you could find some nice patches if you looked. A benefit of looking for those little bonnets is that you never know what you might find out there in rural Texas. I have driven many miles this year and have found some beautiful scenery, farmland structure, wild flowers, and longhorns. My travels took me to Brenham/Chapel Hills, up to Marble Falls, Llano, and down to Fredericksburg, and then out west towards Utopia, awesome times on the bike. Visited a beautiful little church in the town of Panna Maria, the oldest Polish settlement in Texas dating back to 1854. The hospitality shown me from the town Historical Society was very much appreciated, they had done a wonderful job preserving many originals and replicas of artifacts representing their journey from Poland to their new life in America. These photos and others are available for purchase in various sizes and as a final product to include framing & custom matting. - Once again thank you for viewing & sharing my work. Whew, my first ride during this spring break. The virus has caused so much heartache and ugliness but the beauty of nature overwhelms. I hope you find your own bluebonnet bloom or special place outside and stop to enjoy that special moment in time. Needless to say, I had no traffic and a lot of time to slow down and enjoy the ride, scenery and fresh air. These photographs are from my most recent trip from far west San Antonio through Quihi out to Hwy 173, south through Hondo, down Hwy 462 all the way to Bigfoot. I then doubled back towards Lytle, then into Natalia, finally north through Pearson and Castroville. These photos and others are currently available in various sizes and as a final product to include framing & custom matting.
