Photographing Texas one mile at a time...

Summer's Here & Schools Out

In This Issue

Dear Reader,

“The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live.  ~Mortimer Adler"

*NEW* Under the Collections in the photo gallery section, I have added new photographs taken during my recent trip duing Spring Break 2017 through South Texas and the Texas Hill Country, featuring the beautiful bluebonnets, poppies, horses, farm land and other plant life. Please check out these photographs and feel free to post comments or download. Thank you everyone for your support.

Please continue to follow me on Face Book @buy.texasonly and Twitter @buytexasonly. I am also starting an Instagram account.

I will try to post occurring events, photos, additional information to include promotional discounts.

This was a Memorial Day tribute honoring soldiers that have died for their country. The donation below is to help support the Castroville, Texas Poppy House that through donations support the local area American Legion and VFW.

In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the Crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns below.

We are the dead,
Short days ago we lived, felt dawn,
saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up your quarrel with the foe,
To you from falling hands
we throw the torch,
Be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

By Lt. COL. John McCrae of Montreal
whose body lies in Flanders Field

When you see volunteers handing out those poppies during Memorial Day and Veterans Day, know that it is a symbolic flower of remembrance for the men and women in Britain, France, Canada, and the United States of America who have died in service of their country.

By choosing the Art Gallery, you will be able to access these categories and be able to read a short description of each product.

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has grown to be one of the largest and most prestigious single events in San Antonio with over one million visitors entering the grounds each year.

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo History:

In 1854, in an emerging Texas cattle town, history was made when one of the first ever Texas Agricultural Fairs was held in San Antonio. In the following years, many other fairs and expositions came to San Antonio and all encountered the same problem, inadequate facilities to accommodate their needs. It was evident South Texas was in dire need of facilities to serve as a showplace for a livestock exposition.

This cry for greater accommodations was heard in the early 1940s by Joe Freeman, the man who began the movement which eventually gave birth to the Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum. Freeman's prime interests were youth and the agricultural and livestock industries. His dream was to build a coliseum to be used for a number of events, but specifically, a livestock exposition for the youth of Texas. After assembling a number of volunteers, ranging from cattlemen to sports-minded citizens, the movement began to construct this multi-purpose coliseum.

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park

In 1718 Franciscans and Spanish representatives established the first mission. Within 13 years, five were located along the San Antonio River. The missions’ purpose? To acculturate and Christianize the native population and make them Spanish citizens. Today, visitors can retrace the footsteps of the mission Indians and friars. And, possibly, meet descendants of those first inhabitants.
